Daniel Fencer discovered his interest in the substance use field when pursuing a degree in Human Services. In January of 2017, he began working for Gosnold Inc. on Cape Cod as a Recovery Aid in their inpatient detoxification unit as well as overseeing the operations of one of Gosnoldā€™s recovery homes.  While working in an inpatient setting, Dan gained a better understanding of both the barriers and the stigma of accessing treatment.

In December 2017, Daniel accepted a role as a Navigator for the managed care department of Cape Cod Healthcare.  Focusing on his lived experience with substance use, as well as mental health, he utilized a peer model in his position. Serving as a liaison between the Emergency Department and community resources Daniel was assigned to assist the highest risk Medicaid clients with a focus on social determinants of health.

After relocating back to the South Shore in January of 2021, Daniel accepted the position of Recovery Coach for Plymouth County Outreach. Daniel has completed the Recovery Coach Academy through CCAR as well as Community Crisis Intervention Team training through NAMI.
