Eric Mark McDonnell

05/03/1981 – 08/19/2017
“Eric was the youngest of 3 boys and was always full of life with a smile on his face. He had a great laugh and was so good at telling a story that he would have everyone laughing. He lit up a room when he entered, he was such a presence. Eric absolutely loved his whole family more than anything. He was a big “momma’s boy” with the biggest hugs but his true hero was his Dad whom he worked roofing for many years. He was a hard worker and was very good at what he did. He did many slate and copper jobs in Boston and was proud of his work. He was also very proud of his two older brothers who became police officers and he loved his niece and two nephews. He worked in many states over the years. He worked in North Dakota on the oil rigs in the dead of the winter and when he lived in Florida he did steel work and roofing. Many people called him “Boston.” Eric’s friends were important to him and he would do anything for anyone. He truly had a heart of gold and wore his heart on his sleeve. He made friends wherever he was. Eric loved all sports and played baseball, soccer, basketball and wrestling but his true passion was football which he started at age seven and played semi-pro with the Plymouth Outlaws and the Middleboro Cobras. He of course loved the Patriots. I know he wanted to live a normal life like his brothers and have a family and buy a house but his battle with addiction took him down a different path. He was able to help a lot of people, but he couldn’t help himself. Eric was such a people person, so I feel he really taught me compassion for others and to be open to everyone. He just loved everyone and everyone loved him. He also taught me to live life to the fullest which is what we try to do in his memory now.”  Written by Diane and Joe McDonnell
