Chief Hanlon was appointed as a Whitman Police Officer in 2000. In 2003 he was assigned as the Detective for the Town, and in 2005 he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2012 he was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the department, and in September of 2019 he was appointed as the Chief of Police. Over the course of the last 20 years, he has served many roles within the department including the DCJIS liaison for the department, and also the Court Prosecutor. Chief Hanlon received his Associate’s Degree at Massasoit Community College, Bachelor’s Degree at Bridgewater State College, and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration at Western New England College in 2001. Chief Hanlon served as the Vice President of the Southeastern Massachusetts Detective Association. Chief Hanlon graduated from the FBI National Academy’s 255th Session in 2014. In 2017 Chief Hanlon completed the Certificate in Local Leadership for Public Safety and Community Challenges through Suffolk University.
