PLYMOUTH — Plymouth County Outreach, in collaboration with Plymouth Youth Development Collaborative and the Plymouth Area Substance Use Prevention Collaborative, hosted a fall drug take-back event this past weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the drug take-back event was held at the Plymouth Police Department.
The event, which was held as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, allowed residents to clean out their medicine cabinets and discard any unwanted or expired prescription medications. The Plymouth Fire Department was on hand to collect sharps for disposal.
During the event PCO also gave out swag bags that included Deterra (a drug deactivation system that allows you to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications in your own home) pouches as well as pill boxes, resources, pens, stress balls and more.
Approximately 115 pounds of medication was turned in at the event, as well as two large containers of sharps. The PCO team was also able to distribute 75 Deterra pouches for community members.
“This was a very successful drug take-back event, and we were thrilled to be able to partner with the Plymouth Youth Development Collaborative and the Plymouth Area Substance Use Prevention Collaborative, as well as with the Plymouth Fire Department,” Plymouth County Outreach Project Coordinator Vicky Butler said.
Plymouth County Outreach also had Narcan and Narcan training available for attendees, free of cost. PCO recovery coaches were also present for anyone looking for more information/resources on substance use services.
